'Nothing survived the fire' - KZN family speaks after St Faith’s blaze

A relative of the seven family members who were killed by a house fire in St Faith's has spoken of their devastation.

Bongekile Mthembu and her four children, aged between two weeks and nine years, died in their home in KwaNhlalwane in southern KZN.
Thirty-one-year-old Thobeka Mthembu and seven-year-old Ayabonga Mthembu later died in hospital.
Siphumelele Ngwabe says he saw his relatives just hours before the tragedy.

"This is a scary situation. It was unexpected that we would experience this tragic incident right after we had a celebratory ceremony, that we lost seven of our children at the same time as a result of the fire.
"What happened is that everything inside the house was burnt, nothing survived the fire, ID documents got burnt, bank cards were burnt, we are still shocked as a family.
"We thank the municipalities that have come check on us, from Ogwini Municipality and Mzumbe, our councilors, the premier, and as well as the MEC Khoza, they have promised to help us with the burial."
