Increased police visibility as flood donations stolen
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The National Disaster Management Centre's admitted that some
goods, donated during last month's flood relief operations in KZN, were
stolen.
Head of the centre Jurgens Dyssel briefed Parliament's ad-hoc committee looking into April's disastrous floods on Monday.
The floods claimed the lives of at least 447 people and left tens of thousands in need of aid.

He says the items taken were meant for the victims left homeless when their properties were destroyed.
Dyssel said they've increased police visibility in these areas.
"There were some community members in areas started intercepting trucks with commodities and food parcels meant for shelters before these could actually reach their destinations.
"There were also communities in areas where they had water challenges. Those individuals mobilised themselves in protest, but we engaged with the SAPS when these became known to us."
