KZN Premier Sihle Zikalala, sons evacuated from flood-hit home
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
KwaZulu-Natal Premier Sihle Zikalala says he had to be evacuated from his flooded neighbourhood of La Mercy in Durban on Sunday.
This weekend saw parts of eThekwini receive over 266 millimetres of rain, leading to the evacuation of more than 200 people from their homes.
One person has been confirmed dead.
"The community in La Mercy as a whole was left with no access, all of us could not go out or enter, those of us who were in the area had to work to ensure that we clear the roads Sunday afternoon and we were able to have access in and out of the area."

Zikalala also thanked his wife for her "support and prayer".
"So, yesterday I worked till late, midnight, coordinating the evacuation of people in danger of floods. Then later, at dawn, I found out that I, myself had to be evacuated as all roads around had been washed away.
"I also drove myself out with my three boys Ntobeko, Awande, and Sandiswa. But all this could not have been achieved without the support and prayers of the one and only Nelly Zikalala." Zikalala wrote in a Facebook post.
