Inanda cop faces SASSA fraud charges

A policewoman, arrested and allegedly found carrying dozens of SASSA grant cards, is due to appear in court.

SAPS officers say they confiscated close to 50 cards during her arrest in Phoenix, north of Durban, on Tuesday.
Spokesperson, Thembeka Mbele says they received a tip-off about withdrawals being made at the ATM.
The officer's facing charges of fraud, possession of suspected stolen property and contravening the Special Assistance Act.

The suspect’s vehicle was spotted on the Phoenix Highway and Hannaford Road.
The vehicle was stopped and a 38-year-old policewoman stationed at Inanda was arrested.
The suspect was found in possession of 49 Sassa cards.
She was also found in possession of R2350-00 cash. She will appear before the Durban Specialised Commercial Crime Court."
Meanwhile the SA Social Security Agency in KwaZulu-Natal has welcomed the arrest.
