IFP rules out ‘unholy alliance’ with ANC following EFF coalition breakdown
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
IFP President
Velenkosini Hlabisa says even though the EFF's moved to cut all ties with the
party, the party has no plans to enter into “unholy coalitions” with the ANC.
We remain with our dignity, and with our ethics, we will not compromise and get into an unholy alliance. The EFF can go we don't mind, we are not desperate."
Hlabisa spoke at a media briefing in Durban on Monday after the EFF called time on their coalition over the weekend.
The red berets have instructed its deputy mayors in IFP-run municipalities to resign.
Hlabisa said they fell out with the EFF after it asked to run uMhlathuze Municipality in Richards Bay.
He said handing over uMhlathuze to the EFF would have betrayed the people who voted the IFP into power.

It governs 29 municipalities.
"There is an assumption that we will lose 13 municipalities that will be in a corner of comparing Umhlatuze and losing 13 municipalities. As I have said, the basis of their assumptions is incorrect, it's one or two municipalities that will lose and we will not compromise or do an exchange."
