IEC provincial electoral officer, Mawethu Mosery says of the over 5.3-million KwaZulu-Natal citizens already registered to vote, just over 1.3-million are youth between the ages of 18 and 29-years-old.

Speaking at the IEC's offices in Westville, Mosery said the number of registered youth should be in the region of 3-million.

Mosery says so far, just over 170,000 first-time voters between 18 and 21 have registered to vote.

"We should be getting close to a million at this age group, your first-time voters -- people who have become 18 since the last general elections," he said.

"We are concerned and we will work really hard to attract new voters to come and register this weekend."

Mosery says everything is set for the final voter registration drive this weekend.
