Icy conditions, possible snowfall in KZN this weekend
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
As parts of the country brace for a cold snap this week, forecasters say KZN will also receive its share of the chilly weather conditions when thunderstorms roll into the province this weekend, bringing with it strong winds.
"There are some very cold conditions across the province also, there is a possibility of snowfall over the Drakensberg areas," says the South African Weather Service's Julius Mahlangu.
"Early forecasts show that there is a possibility of 10 to 20cm of snowfall over the Drakensberg areas."
Mahlangu says a low-pressure system will develop over the country's north-western interior from Thursday.

There'll be heavy rainfall and some snowfall over the mountainous high lying areas of the Western and Eastern Cape provinces, which will spread to the Lesotho Drakensburg regions on Saturday.
Mahlangu says storms are expected to hit KZN, Gauteng, Mpumalanga and Limpopo on Friday.
Heavy rain's due in our province's southern parts on Saturday.
"But at this stage, areas over Harry Gwala as well as Ugu Districts, Umgungundlovu and eThekwini are likely to be affected, so we are an accumulation rainfall of about 20 to 30mm of rain, maybe even reaching 40mm in some areas.
"So that might cause come localised flooding given what has happened recently."
