eThekwini City leadership says it's met with residents in Bonela following clashes with alleged land invaders there.

Talks are underway to resolve the dispute, police will remain in the area to keep a close watch on the situation.

Human Settlements MEC, Ravi Pillay has announced a multi-million rand housing project for the Milky Way community in Mariannridge's F-section.

He says work will be done in two phases and accommodate 500 families.

In the first phase, 350 units will be constructed on available land. 150 units will be built at a later stage.

Meanwhile, Howell Road residents from Durban's Sydenham area are still appealing for help from the rest of the community.

Dozens of people are being evicted from their homes for the third day now.

They claim they're being forced to pay rent for RDP housing. Chairperson of the Howell Road Residents Committee, Popo Zungu says many families have no where to go.

"I'm appealing to all residents in Durban about this mess we are in. Our things are on the road, people are homeless, children are going to school without proper meals and uniforms because they don't have a home," he says.

The First Housing Company, which manages the project on behalf of eThekwini, says the tenure at Howell Road is purely rental.
