Hopes Chatsworth court will bring ‘swifter justice’

The Chatsworth community will be hoping to see swifter justice with their newly refurbished court.

The Chatsworth Magistrate's Court in the south of Durban had been undergoing renovations for three years.

It reopened on Friday morning.

The building now has seven high-security courtrooms and a sexual offences section with a separate intermediate room.

This will allow children and vulnerable adults to give evidence in court without having to face the suspects.

Community leader Mohammed Ally says they want to see a speedier justice system with the improved courthouse.

"The efficiency will definitely increase with that and the work rate will increase by supplying the community with service. Our calls will be answered much more quicker. We are just hoping for better service provision with the implementation of the new courthouse there.

"We are hoping for the community to report crime so the stats go higher and goes to higher government so they can increase the circuit policing in our neighbourhoods."
