The department experienced 'system down-time' on Friday due to a power outage at the State Information Technology Agency.

All branches across the country were affected, meaning Home Affairs could not offer any services.

The department says the problem has since been fixed, adding that technicians spent the weekend testing the systems in preparation of branches re-opening this morning.

Spokesperson, Thabo Mokgola says they're working to ensure such glitches do not happen again.

"Our network supplier is not the department itself - so there's a third party supplier. The Minister did indicate that we are at an advance stage to secure another service provider.

"He has indicated that his wish is to have a 90% connectivity at all times," Mokgola said.
