HOAX: SAPS urges public not to share 'crime warning'

Police are urging the public not to share a WhatsApp voice note circulating on social media, warning people of a new robbery technique.

The message, which says criminals ask if they can cut in front of motorists before a vehicle behind them jams them in traffic and robs or hijacks them, has been circulated in the Durban North area.

It goes on to say several incidents have been reported in La Lucia and Umhlanga.
Durban North SAPS spokesperson Raymond Deokaran says the message is a hoax and no incidents have been reported.

"We have no such reported incidents. The person in the message says there were three to four incidents during the course of the past month, we emphatically deny this," he said.
