Hlomuka tells Westville inmates education ‘life-changing’
Updated | By Lauren Hendricks
KwaZulu-Natal Education MEC Sipho Hlomuka says prisoners writing their matric exams deserve another shot at turning their lives around.

"You still have another opportunity to change your life," he told prisoners on Friday morning.
Hlomuka monitored the progress at the Isuthubeni School, inside the maximum facility in Westville on the candidates' last week of writing.
The school, established in 1996, is one of four schools in KZN prisons and is the best-performing facility in the region.

Station Commissioner for Westville Correctional Service, Mnikelwa Nxele, said the government must continue working with them.
"The founding fathers and the leadership of this country decreed that as a department we should work in partnership and ensure that rehabilitation, which is the core mandate of correctional services, happens.
"Education is one of those key elements of rehabilitation."
