The chairperson of the multi-party talks aimed at unseating the ANC has lauded the convention as historic.
The so-called 'Moonshot Pact' convention began in Kempton Park on Gauteng's East Rand on Wednesday morning.

"Processes in the world where a pact is put together, or rather a coalition agreement is being negotiated before an election, hasn't happened in many countries, so this is an extraordinary historic moment. I think the maturity of the opposition party leaders to invite outsiders in is a newfound maturity," said Professor William Gumede
Seven opposition parties, including the DA, Action SA and IFP, hope to thrash out a deal over the next two days, which would see them work together to remove the ANC from power during next year's elections.

Gumede, who's chairing the convention, says the purpose of the coalition talks isn't to create political enemies but to bring hope to South Africans.
"A convention is not against anything, but to build something, to generate hope and not against anything but for something, a better South Africa, good governance and capable delivery."
