Hilton residents want power directly supplied by Eskom

Hilton residents say they're looking at removing themselves from the uMsunduzi Municipality power grid.

They want to receive power directly from Eskom.
The Midlands town, as well as areas like Sweetwaters, have experienced severe electricity outages in recent weeks, some lasting more than a week.
Heather Morkel, who is with the Hilton Ratepayers Association, says ideas were shared at a community meeting on Wednesday to try and avoid similar situations in the future.

"We pay our rates to Umgeni and our electricity is supplied by uMsunduzi. What became very clear to us over the last couple of weeks, is that uMsunduzi is ill-equipped to deal with maintaining the line and electricity supply to our area. We are going to form task teams. The first of those task teams will look at liasing with the municipality and with NERSA (National Energy Regulator of South Africa)," she said.
Msunduzi believes the area's electricity infrastructure had been sabotaged. Earlier this week, it said that authorities are investigating and arrests are imminent.
Thousands of households and local business have been without electricity in the area, after a group of disgruntled employees sabotaged its supply.
