Hillcrest High School pupils suspended for using K and N-word
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Hillcrest High School has revealed that five pupils were suspended for their involvement in a racial slur incident.
Snippets of a conversation on a private WhatsApp group chat went public on social media last year.
In a statement, the chairperson of the School Governing Body, Byron Creed, denied claims the incident was swept under the carpet.
He says a disciplinary hearing was held in June this year after the Whatsapp conversation landed on other social media platforms.

Creed says in the meeting, the pupils expressed remorse and said that they did not understand the full connotation of the words and the history.
He says their parents also apologised.
The school says the slurs stemmed from a private group chat with no affiliation to it.
KZN Education officials are expected to visit the school on Thursday.
