Hijacking suspects on the run after KwaDabeka shootout

KZN police are trying to catch up with two suspected criminals who managed to get away during a Durban shootout, in which three of their alleged accomplices were killed.

Officers who had been conducting an operation in KwaDabeka on Saturday night spotted a suspicious vehicle.
"Police then tried to stop the driver but they drove off and they fired towards the police. The police retaliated, fatally wounding three suspects. Two other suspects escaped," the police's Thembeka Mbhele says.

Mbhele says three unlicensed firearms were recovered from the scene.
"It was discovered that the vehicle was hijacked at Newlands East and there is a case which has been opened - investigating a hijacking."
