Hijacking suspect killed in N2 Tongaat shootout

A hijacking suspect has been killed in a shootout with police in Tongaat, north of Durban, on Friday morning.

IPSS Medical Rescue's Samantha Meyrick says they received reports of a hijacking that had taken place on the N2 southbound on-ramp.
The driver of the car had been shot.

"The driver was found in a serious condition and was stabilised on scene by IPSS Medical advanced life support before being transported to a facility for further care," says Meyrick.
"SAPS and private security companies were in the vicinity at the time of the hijacking and were able to chase down the vehicle where a shootout incurred.
"One suspect has been fatally wounded, and the remaining one has escaped. The N2 off-ramp at Tongaat is an active crime scene, with SAPS on scene."
