Hijacked courier vehicle found in Umgababa

An investigation is underway following the discovery of a courier vehicle that was hijacked in Umkomaas on the south coast.

After an intensive search by police and private security, the car was found at area 35 in Umgababa on Wednesday, moments after it was involved in the hijacking.
The vehicle's luggage had been taken.
KZN SAPS spokesperson Robert Netshiunda says their investigations then led them to Umlazi.
"One-hundred-and-forty stolen cellphones were recovered, also recovered was a vehicle which was used in the commission of the crime.
"Police also found registration plates of a vehicle which was reported hijacked in Chatsworth last month, as well as a police blue light.
"Several bank cards belonging to various people were also found. Police are hot on the heels of the suspects and they are following several leads."
