High-ranking cops nabbed for R54m tender

A former senior police officer and two high-ranking colleagues are among six people arrested in connection with a R54 million South African Police Service tender.

The tender dates back to 2016.
Spokesperson for the NPA’s Investigating Directorate Sindisiwe Seboka says the suspects were arrested on Monday and Tuesday during operations in Durban, Bloemfontein, and various areas around Pretoria.
“The suspects are two businessmen based in Durban, a former lieutenant-general, a current serving lieutenant-colonel and two majors-general from Pretoria and Bloemfontein.

“Two of the suspects were arrested as they were about to board domestic flights from OR Tambo International Airport to Cape Town and Durban, respectively.
“The arrests are a result of joint stakeholder cooperation between the Investigating Directorate and IPID secondments assigned to the ID.”
The suspects will appear in the Pretoria Specialised Commercial Crimes Court on Wednesday on charges of fraud, corruption, and theft.
