High court rules Zuma may appeal legal costs order
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Former President Jacob Zuma will be allowed to appeal a high court judgement in which he was ordered to pay an estimated R10 million in costs for his appeal of the Public Protector's state capture report.
The decision was made in the North Gauteng High Court.
In court, Zuma's lawyer, Advocate Muzi Sikhakhane argued that former president had wanted to intervene in the matter in his personal capacity.
"Even when he is no longer in that capacity, the nature of the order was such that it will follow him. That is what I meant - that even at this point, when he sits in his retirement, this order affects him wherever he is," Sikhakhane said.
The EFF, UDM, DA, Cope and the Council for the Advancement of the South African Constitution - were opposing Zuma's application for leave to appeal.

Advocate, Dali Mpofu for Cope and the UDM had argued that the application be dismissed as the matter has already been concluded.
"The point here is that there are no proceedings to intervene in - that the application to intervene cannot succeed at all. And therefore, is at that point that we should all pack and go home," Mpofu said.
