One of them, an 18-year-old man, has been convicted of raping his three nephews and a niece aged between seven and eight.

The mother of one of the children overheard her son telling his older brother about his ordeal and intervened.

KwaZulu-Natal police spokesperson Thembeka Mbele says the teen uncle has been jailed for 80 years on four counts of rape.

"The victims were questioned and they all confirmed being raped by their uncle. Four counts of rape were opened for investigation and the uncle was arrested. He was remanded in custody until he was sentenced."

In another case, a man has been sentenced to life in prison for raping a woman in Estcourt last year.

The 44-year-old man is said to have broken into the home of a 40-year-old woman who had earlier rejected his advances.

He attacked her while she was sleeping.

Mbele says she managed to get away and alerted neighbours.

"She provided a description of the man and the community identified the suspect as MuziwenkosI Mzunkunzi Nkala. Estcourt police were informed and a case of rape was opened.

"The docket was transferred to the Estcourt Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit for further investigation and the suspect was arrested and charged for rape.

"The investigation revealed that Nkala might also be linked to another rape case where a 58-year-old woman was allegedly raped at her home in Bhalonini area on April 2020."
