Hefty sentence for killers of Nongoma principal
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
The Pietermaritzburg High Court has sentenced two men to 25 years and 15 years in prison for the murder and robbery of a Nongoma high school principal.
The court heard how Sibonelo Sikhakhane, who was an educators' assistant, felt he was being overworked and placed under excessive pressure, blaming principal Muziwakhe Sibiya.
It's understood Sikhakhane resigned and plotted to kill Sibiya in revenge.
In February, Sikakhane and his friend Philani Ntuli gave the principal a lift to the R66 main road, where Ntuli shot him.
Natasha Kara, who's with the NPA in KZN, says they stole Sibiya's phone, laptop and tablet.

"In sentencing them for murder, the court deviated from the minimum sentence of life imprisonment because they had no previous or pending cases.
"The court also found them to be remorseful for their actions and eligible candidates for rehabilitation. They will serve an effective 25 years imprisonment as the sentences will run concurrently.
"The NPA welcomes the swift finalisation of this matter."
