Heavy downpours sees disaster management services activated in Ugu, eThekwini

The KwaZulu-Natal Cooperative Governance Department says the Orange Level 6 alert that is in place for Ugu is the second-highest weather warning level.
It says areas such as Margate and Port Edward have already reported rainfall measurements of 89mm and 49mm since Monday.
It's also started raining in parts of Durban, but the South African Weather Service says eThekwini remains on Yellow Level Two.
City authorities have urged residents to take note of the warning as higher intensities of rain are predicted over the central and northern coastal areas of eThekwini.

They've also advised the public to avoid crossing rivers and be cautious when travelling.
"The potential impact is localised flooding in both formal and informal settlements, low-lying bridges. Another impact is difficult driving conditions," the city said in a statement on Tuesday afternoon.
The department’s Nonala Ndlovu says it's activated all disaster management services in Ugu and eThekwini.
"The teams stand ready to respond promptly and effectively wherever necessary. We strongly advise residents to closely monitor water levels and relocate to higher ground to avoid any potential disasters. Should residents experience to any difficulties, they are urged to contact their local leadership."
