Ugu District Municipality spokesperson Frans Zama says it started bucketing down in parts of the area on Monday night.

While there are reports of flooding and some infrastructure damage in Port Shepstone, Zama says they have been told that no one has been hurt so far.

"The weather warning that has been released is a testimony in terms of what is currently taking place within the district. Disaster management teams within the district are on the ground in terms of ensuring they monitor the situation.

"There have been any reported incidents that have occurred at this point in time, but all our disaster management teams in the district are on high alert to ensure we are able to respond to any incidents that may occur, especially from hotspots that we have identified from the previous occurrence."

The weather service on Tuesday issued Orange level 6 and Yellow Level 2 warnings for disruptive rain and localised flooding in the extreme south-eastern parts of the province.

Forecaster Julius Mahlangu says the Ugu and eThekwini Municipalities have been flagged.

"We have an 80% chance along the eThekwini and Ugu coastal areas, and areas around Pietermaritzburg, Umzimkhulu, and iLembe District are under 60% otherwise.

"Other areas are 30% except for areas which are over the north-western parts of the province. There is no rain expected in those areas for today."
