Several speakers have taken turns remembering staff killed
in the Boksburg tanker explosion at a healing service hosted by the Gauteng
Department of Health.

Unit leader at the paediatric ward at the Tambo Memorial Hospital Sr Rammonye has paid tribute to nurses Kgothatso Magopane and Nompumelelo Shezi who died in the tragic tanker explosion that claimed 37 lives and left several others injured on Christmas Eve last year
Bereaved family members and the colleagues of 12 staff members attached to the Ekurhuleni facility who died in the deadly accident gathered at the Boksburg Civic centre on Tuesday.
Rammonye has described the two friends as hardworking and dependable.
"People these were the two ladies that we know that when you got them in your unit your ward is covered. They were playful, hardworking, at the same time well disciplined.

They do have their in and outs, but I must say, work-related, they were there for the unit,"
At the same time, Rammonye says 41-year-old Magopane was not scheduled to be at the facility on the day.
"And surprisingly, Magopane was not on shift, she volunteered to come on Christmas eve, to work overtime,"
In the week leading up to her funeral Magopane’s brother who is also a nurse at the same facility, said when he rushed to his sister’s aid after his mother alerted him to the tragedy, he saw his sister’s friend whom he couldn’t recognize due to the severity of her injuries.
