‘Not in the best interests of patients’ - Health professionals concerned over NHI Bill

Health professionals have again voiced
concerns about the National Health Insurance Bill.

The SA Health Professionals Collaboration feels the government needs to take more time with the proposal.
The organisation's Simon Strachan feels there hasn't been enough input from the National Council of Provinces’ committees before Wednesday’s vote.

The SAHPC represents over 25,000 private and public health workers.
The National Assembly passed the NHI bill in June.
"The potential consequences of rushing through the NHI Bill without critical amendments are far-reaching and further undermine the country’s ability to deliver quality health care for the very patients it seeks to protect.
"This version of the bill is not in the best interest of patients. It will also have severe repercussions for the economy and the country's long-term economic sustainability."
