Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Mulaudzi says they were surprised to learn that former National Prosecution Authority (NPA) boss Mxolisi Nxasana has joined the case.

"We were shocked as well, just like anybody else. It's not our baby, we are not involved. What is critical to us is that we should have a strong relations with the NPA," he said.

It emerged on Monday that Nxasana would be representing accused number three and four in the case.

The accused say they are South African, and their two co-accused are from Mozambique.

The group was arrested two weeks ago, when Munsamy, who had been abducted in Pinetown in May, was found in a house in Emalahleni, Mpumalanga.

Mulaudzi says they are undeterred by the latest developments.

"I think the NPA has also realised that there are high profile defence lawyers that are dealing with this case. So, it is a matter that should always anticipate, it's not something new, but it also shows the nature of the case that we are dealing with," he said.
