Hawks probing Nongoma cash-in-transit shootout
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The Hawks have taken over the investigation into a cash-in-transit heist that escalated into a bloody shootout in Nongoma in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Two police officers and seven suspects were killed.
The police received information that a group of heavily armed suspects were planning to rob a van transporting cash, on Friday night.
Hawks spokesperson, Hangwani Malaudzi says detectives from the serious crime fighting unit received the docket this past weekend.
"We have gathered there is only one suspect that has been incarcerated. There are others that are being pursued. We have an arsenal of firearms that we have confiscated. The matter is closed by the Hawks and we want to make sure we find the one who is responsible," Malaudzi said.
