Hawks confirm probe into Mkhwebane bribe claims
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
Hawks head Godfrey Lebeya has confirmed the unit is investigating the complaint about alleged bribery lodged by suspended public protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane.

Mkhwebane claims several ANC MPs solicited a R600 000 bribe from her through her husband, to make her impeachment inquiry go away.
This week, she released recordings which she says are of meetings between her husband and the late Tina Joemat-Pettersson.

The other two MPs, Pemmy Majodina and Qubudile Dyantyi, have denied the bribery allegations.
Speaking at a briefing in Pretoria outlining the milestones the directorate achieved in the fourth quarter, Lebeya said the Mkhwebane matter was receiving attention.
"That matter is being handled by our Gauteng DPCI. There are certain investigations that we are pursuing. We have worked with prosecutors and we have approached the court to get certain authorities to do certain things.
"We are working on that, so you can understand that this is a new matter and we have got to systematically search for the truth."
