When he didn't find her at home, it's believed he opened fire on his girlfriend's two sisters - killing one of them.

Word soon got out about the gunman, and his car was spotted in the nearby Ntuzuma area.

As police were approaching his vehicle, the suspect opened fire - hitting an officer in the foot.

Naicker says a woman who was with the officer and also understood to be the sister of the gunman's girlfriend - was shot in the arm.

"Police returned fire, and the suspect then noticed there were a lot of police reinforcements in the area, and he fled in-between the houses on foot. At this stage, a manhunt is underway for the suspect," he said.
