Gungubele: R180m set aside for informal settlement upgrades

More than R180 million is being set aside for a programme aimed at upgrading informal settlements.

Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele says there is a need to improve the quality of life of residents, in the wake of the devastating floods in some provinces, particularly in KZN. 


He briefed the media on Thursday morning on the outcomes of yesterday's Cabinet meeting. 


"An additional R733 million has been allocated through the human settlement grant to assist in the creation of sustainable integrated human settlements."

Gungubele says government support continues to pour into the affected provinces. 


"Government has prioritised the provision of food, water and shelter for displaced people and the repair of damaged infrastructure. 


"Extensive work is underway to restore basic services such as water, electricity, sanitation and waste removal."
