Gungubele: Additional measures needed to rid SA of gun violence
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
Minister in the Presidency Mondli Gungubele says it's evident that more police measures are needed to tackle and reduce gun violence in the country.

"This includes putting more police on the streets and setting up specialised teams that will focus on specific types of crime. South Africa will also use data retrieving methods to identify and target crime hotspots."
He addressed the media on Thursday morning during a post-cabinet briefing in Cape Town.
He also paid tribute to Kiernan 'AKA' Forbes and chef Tebello 'Tibz' Motsoame, who were shot and killed on Florida Road in Durban on Friday night.
He encouraged community members to assist the police in solving cases by supplying them with evidence.
Gungubele said police are intensifying operations to rid the streets of illegal firearms.
"Police have in the past twelve months permanently removed 65 519 firearms from circulation, although we accept more still needs to be done."
