Gumede addresses Abahlali concerns in public meeting
Updated | By Anelisa Kubheka
eThekwini Mayor Zandile Gumede says she always keeps the promises she makes to residents.
Gumede was responding to journalists' questions in Umlazi about the grievances of shack dweller's movement - Abahlali BaseMjondolo.
Last month, Abahlali led a massive march to City Hall to hand over a memorandum of demands - mainly around access to housing.
They also accuse the city's land invasion unit of being violent when executing evictions.

Gumede says she previously met with the leader of the movement and told him they must asses the situation and devise a strategy together.
"I've been in this position for seven months. My new city manager has been in the position for only one month. We are still making sure that everything is in order. How dare can people march? At the end of the day, everything must be done within the framework and the law. Even now, I'm prepared that I'll be sitting down with them and talking to them," she said.
