A dispute over equal pay began a week ago.

The illegal work stoppage has forced the temporary closure of garden refuse sites across Durban, with waste refuse collections also put on hold.

Some health clinics aren't open and there've been delays to repairs to sort out water and power outages.

Rubbish has been dumped on streets in various parts, including central Durban.

The city's leadership has come under pressure to update residents on the way forward.

A briefing by Mayor Mxolisi Kaunda and Premier Nomusa Dube-Ncube was postponed over the weekend.

It's expected to take place on Monday.
