Speaking in Pretoria yesterday, President Jacob Zuma said they've identified water as a critical resource for economic development.

He says work continues on the implementation of the five-point plan which includes maintaining and upgrading infrastructure and building new dams.

"[The plan aims to] improve water quality, develop smart technologies for water and sanitation,  information management and ensure an enhanced and integrated regulatory regime for example water use licensing," he said.

The president has also said he is satisfied by the improving maintenance of power plants at Eskom.

He added the country's economy is expected to increase steadily to 3% over the next three years as the electricity crisis eases.
