Govt steps in to help south coast family bury mom
Updated | By Lauren Beukes
The KwaZulu-Natal government has stepped in to help a south coast family lay their mother to rest.
A video showing four women carrying a coffin through the streets of Mthwalume emerged over the weekend.
Cooperative Governance MEC Sihle Zikalala says the Induna refused them the right to bury the woman in the village because they don't own property there.

The family had to return the body to the mortuary.
Zikalala says the events are disturbing and a team is investigating.
"We have secured through the mayor a grave site where there will be a burial under the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality. But further to that we will assist in ensuring that they also get a house. We will build a house for them through the Operation Sukuma Sakhe intervention."
The burial will now be held on Thursday.
