Govt to pilot ‘self-care’ vending machine
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
The government is piloting what it's calling a Self-Care Wellness Vending Machine.
The initiative will be piloted at the Mthatha Ultra City in the Eastern Cape.
“It is going to provide emergency contraceptives, the morning-after pill, HIV prevention, male condoms, as well as female condoms. It is also going to provide pregnancy tests and provide sanitary towels.
"The machine is going to be installed on the N2 in Mathata, where there are high volumes of traffic,” says the department's spokesperson in the Eastern Cape, Sizwe Kupelo.

Kupelo says the products within the machine are free of charge.
Deputy Health Minister Sibongiseni Dhlomo will officially hand over the machine on Wednesday.
Kupelo says it's part of the efforts to curb the scourge of teenage pregnancy in the country.
He says if successful, it will be rolled out to other areas highly concentrated in youth.
