Govt lifts nationwide ban on cattle movement
Updated | By Sandile Bhengu
The nationwide ban on the movement of cattle has been lifted.
It was imposed last month for a period of 21 days in a bid to curb the spread of foot-and-mouth disease.
Just over a week ago, the Agriculture Department reported 11 new cases in the country, including five in KZN.

Spokesperson Reggie Ngcobo says it's encouraging that the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape and Western Cape did not have a single case during the ban.
"All movements must be accompanied by owner declaration, recipient undertaking to isolate the animals for at least 28 days before introducing them onto the main herd, all stock theft documents section 6 and section 8 documents must accompany the movement.
"We will continue with surveillance and vaccination in these areas that still has active infections.
"We call upon farmers and communities to observe the health protocols that have been put in place and refrain from illegal movement of cattle or animals.”
