Govt blames bad management, corruption for SA Express liquidation
Updated | By Noxolo Miya
The Department of Public Enterprises says SA Express' liquidation is a consequence of bad management, corruption and state capture.

The High Court in Johannesburg on Wednesday granted an order for the airline's final liquidation.
It went into provisional liquidation in April 2020 after failed attempts to rescue the business.
The airline has been grounded since.

Public Enterprises spokesperson Richard Mantu says government simply did not have the funds to continue SA Express' rescue.
"There were three different attempts by provisional liquidators to attract credible buyers, including a crowdfunding initiative by employees to buy the airline, but none had the requisite financial resources to sustain the business post the sale.
"It is against this background that the Department empathize with all the employees of SA Express who started the regional airline and built will walk away without any incentives."
