Court grants order to liquidate SA Express
Updated | By Makhosazane Twala
The High Court in Johannesburg has granted an order for the liquidation of SA Express.
The court granted the order on Wednesday morning without any opposition.
SA Express went into provisional liquidation in April 2020 after failed attempts to rescue the business.
It has not operated since.
The Dynamic People's Union of South Africa, who were outside court this morning, says SA Express employees have been let down by government.
The union’s general secretary Mashudu Raphetha says the liquidation has left more than 600 staff members without a job.
“Workers are going to get less than R28 000 because through the looting and the state capture there are no assets in disposal.
“The perpetrators have looted this airline and rack slacked it to the bone. Therefore there’s nothing left to take home for the employees who worked an average of 8 to 10 years because of poor governance and corruption.”
SAX had liabilities of more than R900 million.
The Department of Public Enterprises says it will issue a statement at a later stage.
