Gordhan presents economic forecast during KZN finance briefing

Finance Minister Pravin Gordhan says although it's hard to predict how the economy will perform, the country’s economic growth needs to improve - so that enough revenue can be collected for expenditure.

Gordhan was speaking during a finance briefing at the office of the KZN Premier today -  ahead of his Medium-Term Budget Policy Statement in Parliament, next Wednesday.

He says he might present a revised figure for projected economic  growth. In February it was predicted that  would be anything between 0. 6 and 0.9 percent.

"It will have an impact on the amount of revenue we collect. And if it has an impact on the amount of revenue we collect, it means it has an impact on the amount of expenditure we actually have available to us, for the various things we have to do for this year. If that pattern continues, it affects the following year or two," he said.

Gordhan refused to answer question relating to himself and the charges leveled against him by the NPA. He says that he wasn’t there to talk about himself - especially since the matter is sub-judicae.
