Gordhan insists Eskom 'not broken'
Public Enterprises Minister Pravin Gordhan insists Eskom
isn't broken or dysfunctional.
He admits though there is an energy crisis.
"It does have a series of challenges and it will take time to resolve some of them. In particular, if we are able to acquire 4 000 to 6 000 megawatts of additional energy for Eskom, then we create the space for the kind of maintanance that actually needs to occur."
Gordhan was speaking during a debate with opposition MPs on the energy crisis in Parliament on Thursday.
The country's currently dealing with stage 2 load shedding, although flood-hit eThekwini has been left off the schedule for now.
During a heated debate, Gordhan said references to the ANC as criminals were wrong.
This after some opposition MPs pointed the finger at the ANC for the corruption which left Eskom dealing with a myriad of issues.

"There are many honest, dedicated patriotic South Africans who are members of the ANC, just as there are members of the DA, the EFF, IFP or any other party," Gordhan said.
"These are the honest people who want the state to actually work for the people of this country and want corrupt people, like many of you have said, in orange uniforms.
"Those are the people that all of us should combine with to ensure that we leave behind a country for future generations that we of this generation, to say we are proud at the end of the day. So don't call us all thugs, we're not."
