Godongwana: Eskom must focus on restoration of coal fleet
Updated | By Newswatch
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana says Eskom should focus on restoring the coal-fired power stations, rather than setting its sights on green energy.

"Lots of work has been done, there is no doubt about that, we want to resolve the Eskom issue as soon as possible,” the minister told a pre-World Economic Summit briefing on Thursday.
“Part of that resolution is to make sure they have a healthy balance sheet so they can do what they do best. In my view that's prioritising and sorting what they have not and not in looking at what they don’t have."
National Treasury is expected to announce a cash injection for the embattled state-owned entity at the end of February.
Godongwana’s comments come as stage 6 load shedding remains with us until further notice.
“We are making sure that with of 48 000 megawatts at least 32 (000) megawatts are working. Just something like that and to sort this thing out, that's why it's critical to clear that balance sheet. We’ll make the appropriate announcement on the 22nd of February."
