GBV programmes ‘not reaching some men’

A local shelter for victims of abuse is calling on men to lead community dialogues on issues of gender-based violence and femicide.

The Phoenix Child Welfare has been commenting after a deadly shooting in Clayfield over the weekend that left three people dead, including a toddler.
A man shot his partner and their three-year-old daughter before turning the gun on himself on Saturday.

The organisation's Aroon Chetty says the community's been left shaken.
"It is really sad that you know that this happens so early in the year. We need to do more programmes with men and young boys because we are definitely not reaching a certain target of men out there in terms of how to treat women."
