Gang who attacked Ladysmith couple handed 15-year sentence

A Ladysmith regional court has sentenced a gang of robbers to at least 15 years behind bars for an attack on a local couple.

Members of the group, Siphesihle Majola, Sibusiso Dladla, Nduduzo Xulu, Thulani Mbhele, Sithembiso Mbuyazi and Bongani Nxumalo, followed Mohamed Ismail home in 2019.

They assaulted him with a gun before robbing him and his wife.
KZN NPA spokesperson Natasha Kara says three of the suspects were slapped with a further eight years and six months in prison for the unlawful possession of a firearm and ammunition.
"They took R600 from Ismail and fled. They were arrested after one of Ismail's neighbours noticed a suspicious vehicle in the area and jotted down the vehicle's number plate."

"This information was handed over to the police and the men were found in the vehicle with the money packet taken from Ismail."
