Funerals get underway for some Hammanskraal crash victims

Six people - including four children - who died in a fatal crash in Hammanskraal, outside Pretoria, will be laid to rest today.

In total, 14 people lost their lives in the collision involving a taxi and a bakkie, last weekend.

According to a statement released by the Department of Transport, most of the deceased were from the Moleke Village, outside Polokwane in Limpopo.
Among the deceased are six school children. Two other people remain in a critical condition in hospital.

Minister of Transport, Dipuo Peters, is believed to be attending the funerals.
Earlier this week, Peters released the national festive season road statistics - which showed that 1714 people lost their lives on the country's roads between 1 and 31 December, 2016.
