FULL INTERVIEW: Manuel - SA is in a deep moment of crisis
Updated | By Portia Cele
In an interview with Soweto TV's Tim Modise, former politician Trevor Manuel has added his voice to other influential South Africans urging Zuma to step down as head of state.
Manuel has echoed sentiments of activists, Ahmed Kathrada and Ben Turok who have questioned the president's fitness to hold office given recent developments.
At the weekend, ANC stalwart Kathrada penned down an open letter after the Constitutional Court ruled the president had violated his Constitutional duties by not complying with the Public Protector's recommendations to repay a portion of the money spent on non-security upgrades to his Nkandla home.
In this video, Manuel questions the functionality of both the arms of government - the Executive and Legislative authorities and says the country is in a deep moment of crisis.
Manuel served as Minister of Finance under the presidency of Nelson Mandela and Thabo Mbeki. He was also an active governmental member in Zuma's administration between 2009 and 2014.
Yesterday, 233 members voted against the motion to impeach President Zuma.
