Open letter calling for Zuma to resign not surprising: Analyst

A political analyst feels anti-Apartheid icon Ahmed Kathrada’s open letter to President Jacob Zuma calling for him to step down is not surprising given the events running up to the Constitutional Court’s judgement on Nkandla.
Kathrada penned the letter after the ConCourt earlier this week found Zuma had violated his Constitutional duties for failing to follow through on the Public Protector’s remedial action on non-security upgrades to his private home.
Zuma addressed the nation on Friday night saying he did not deliberately violate the Constitution.
Analyst Sanusha Naidu says there is an emerging trend where struggle veterans are voicing their discontent with the ANC.
"For a while now you can see that there is a trend that has emerged where they have noted their discontent, where they have noted their displeasure about some issues and of course a lot of the controversies that have emerged over the past few months with regards to development within the party," she said.
"I think the run-up to the Constitutional Court's ruling as well as in other spaces there had been a murmur or even an explicit voicing of concern," Naidu said.
