Fuel price predicted to increase in August

The price of fuel is set to go up next week and we're being told to expect further increases.

The Automobile Association (AA) is predicting a hike of between nine and 16 cents a litre for petrol, a 48 cents increase for diesel and 43 cents for illuminating paraffin.

This is based on unaudited month-end data from the Central Energy Fund.


Spokesperson, Layton Beard says international oil prices were higher in July.


"Although the Rand gained some strength against the dollar in recent weeks, the rise in international oil prices is negatively impacting on local fuel prices resulting in predicted increases going into August.


Predicting an outlook further ahead is difficult, but the association advisors motorists to prepare their budget for possible future increases - which as always will be dependant on the strength of the local currency," says Beard.
