Fresh start for flood-ridden KwaDukuza farm
Updated | By Gcinokuhle Malinga
A KwaDukuza mother whose farming business was washed away in the April floods says she's thankful to be given a fresh start.
Welile Gumede on Wednesday received a donation of R1 million to revive her business.
The single mum recalls the gut-wrenching moment the business she built with her grant money was swept away by floodwaters in April.
She says before the disaster, Azowel Projects in Shakaskraal employed 32 people.

She grew tomatoes and green peppers and enjoyed an annual turnover of R1.6 million.
"I am happy and excited because my heart was very sore having to let go my staff and I also had students on my farm that were now losing their stipends.
"It was overwhelming because since April, there has been no intervention and I have been stressing trying to figure out how to revive the farm and just waiting on whatever support that could come through."
Gumede received a cheque from the Department of Social Development and the MTN SA Foundation.
